One of the great things that becoming civilized has taught us is that being clean and keeping our environment hygienic is a surefire way to avoid complications that result in poor health and even possible loss of life because of diseases. And, clean restrooms are usually at the top of our list.
In business, we can add to that the appeal that clean surroundings have on the public. Nobody wants to conduct business with companies that are shoddy, dank, smelling of mold and fungi, and grimy – and that’s just the main work areas that we’re talking about. It gets worse when the area of concern is the restroom.
Trust and Respectability
The cleaner a company presents itself to the public, the greater the trust that the public bestows on it. A company with clean restrooms and a neat and orderly office environment is considered respectable and responsible. This is because, in the mind of the public, a company that can’t be bothered to uphold sanitary standards – which are supposed to be basic considerations wherever people congregate for any length of time – can’t also be trusted to pay attention to other, weightier matters such as customer satisfaction.
A Special Focus on Cleanliness
What’s more, there are certain industries and business sectors for which clean premises are a must. In the food and beverage industry, for example, clean restrooms are vital to continued operations because of the fact that a dirty restroom is equated with germs and infectious diseases. This does not only apply to businesses such as that of food processing companies (examples: canning, bottling, preserving, curing) but also businesses that serve food to the public. Either way, it is still obligatory to maintain restrooms that are top-notch in cleanliness.
The same standards apply to other business sectors such as those of hospitals, spas, gyms, and wellness clinics, where cleanliness can be a matter that is equal to health or sickness and life or death.
Clean Restrooms add Value
Each of us has experienced first-hand how turned-off we are when we encounter a filthy restroom. A smelly, unclean restroom is the first noticeable thing when anyone enters a company’s premises. When the stink that is part of an unclean restroom wafts out, it makes an “odor imprint” and gets stored in the memory cells of people. We automatically assume that the facilities are sub-standard. However, clean restrooms have the opposite effect!
Aside from such considerations, however, it’s also vital to maintain clean restrooms because they are also conducive for employees to get more work done. When employees feel comfortable where they work, their focus is clear, and they give more attention and effort in interacting with their co-employees and the public.
So, if you don’t want your customers to have a horrible olfactory memory or an experience of disgust toward your company, then be sure you keep clean restrooms.
